Lead dioxide is used as an anode material in electrochemistry. ... In organic synthesis, lead dioxide anodes were applied for the production of glyoxylic acid from oxalic acid in a sulfuric acid electrolyte. The most important use of lead dioxide is as the cathode of lead acid batteries.

Lead (IV) oxide is used to manufacture rubber substitutes. Used in making explosives. Used as a curing agent for polysulfide. Used as an oxidizing agent in the manufacturing of dyes.
